Blood Drives

•American Red Cross Blood Drives open to the public: August 30 from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 38 South Lake Avenue, Bergen; August 30 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Greece Assembly of God, 750 Long Pond Road, Rochester; August 31 from 1 to 6 p.m. at First Bible Baptist Church, 990 Manitou Road, Hilton; August 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran School, 158 East Avenue, Hilton. Blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old (16 with a NYS parental permission slip) and must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Classes/Workshops

•Hunter Education classes offered in Orleans County on Wednesday, September 15 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friday, September 17 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday, September 18 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Holley Rod and Gun Club, Pumping Station Road. Participants must pick up and read manual prior to the class. Pre-register in person at the club on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. (other times if open by chance). All new hunters, bowhunters and trappers must receive training before getting their first license. Students must attend all sessions, demonstrate proper attitude and safety, and pass the test.

Entertainment/Events

•Free Outdoor Concert with George DeMott on Tuesday, August 31 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at GrandeVille Senior Living Community, 555 Maiden Lane, Greece. Free. RSVP to 621-6160. Refreshments will be served. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

•The Chili Art Group annual Barnes and Noble Art Show will take place from September 5 through 25 in the second floor Community Room at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 3349 Monroe Avenue, Pittsford Plaza. There will be an Artists’ Reception on Saturday, September 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. with the Awards Presentation at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

•Take an eerie ride on the Erie Canal - a two-hour cruise starts Saturday, August 28 with Captain Cooper and his boat, the Rose Lummis, accompanied by Dawane, Denise and Patti of the Spirit Diggers Paranormal Investigation Groups. Hosts are settlers from the 19th century telling eerie stories of the Erie Canal while taking a cruise to the Adams Basin Inn, for an actual investigation. •Buttonwood Twig will be selling ice cream and cookies at the Hamlin Antique Tractor and Equipment Show on September 4 and 5. Proceeds to benefit Lakeside Memorial Hospital.

•Legislator Robert Colby holds Community Office Hours at Riga Town Hall on Thursday, September 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the meeting room. He will introduce himself to the community, answer questions, and listen to constituents’ concerns. Area residents are invited to stop in.

•Brockport: Village Board meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Planning Board meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Zoning Board of Appeals meets the fourth Tuesday of the month only upon application. Historic Preservation Board meets the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall as needed.

•Chili: Conservation Board meets August 30 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Main Meeting Room. Town Board meets September 1 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Main Meeting Room. Traffic and Safety Committee meets September 2 at 7 p.m. at the Highway Department. Town Offices will be closed Monday, September 6 for Labor Day.

•Spencerport: Village Board meets the first Wednesday of every month (September 1); Planning and Architectural Review Board meets the first Tuesday of every month; and Zoning Board meets the third Thursday of every month. All meetings start at 7 p.m. at the Village Office, 27 West Avenue. The Board of Trustees also conducts meetings the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the Village Office.

•The Greece Historical Museum, 595 Long Pond Road will be closed Sunday, September 5 so volunteers can enjoy the Labor Day weekend with their families.
